CypSec and McMaster University collaborate on deterministic penetration testing and Horizon Europe cybersecurity research.
Hamilton, Canada - September 20, 2025
CypSec today announced a strategic partnership with McMaster University to pursue joint cybersecurity research with a focus on deterministic network penetration testing and large-scale European R&D initiatives, including Horizon Europe calls. The collaboration will combine McMaster's academic expertise in deterministic security models with CypSec's applied experience in advanced network testing and vulnerability research.
McMaster University has a strong track record in cybersecurity research, particularly in deterministic approaches to network behavior modeling and fault-tolerant systems. Integrating these methods with CypSec's tooling and data from partner-driven penetration testing campaigns allows us to build repeatable, controlled test environments that reduce variability and improve the accuracy of network security assessments.
"McMaster's deep research expertise in deterministic network testing complements our practical experience with large-scale security assessments," said Frederick Roth, Chief Information Security Officer of CypSec. "Together we can bridge the gap between theoretical models and operational testing, driving new innovation in how organizations secure complex infrastructures."
The partnership will prioritize collaborative grant applications, particularly within Horizon Europe and other international R&D programs. Joint projects will explore deterministic testing frameworks, formal verification techniques, and automated vulnerability discovery methods, leveraging McMaster's research infrastructure and CypSec's real-world data, threat intelligence, and advanced fuzzing and assessment platforms.
This collaboration also creates opportunities for joint publications, shared intellectual property, and potential commercialization of novel security testing methodologies. It will embed McMaster researchers in CypSec-led industry projects while giving CypSec access to emerging academic breakthroughs and a skilled talent pipeline.
McMaster University is a leading Canadian research institution recognized for its contributions to cybersecurity, network systems, and applied engineering research. Its teams work on deterministic models, advanced network security, and large-scale collaborative projects worldwide. For more information, visit www.mcmaster.ca.
